Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The leader of the South Sudan United Front, Paul Malong, has called on the parties to the agreement to ensure judicial reforms in the new year.<\/p>\n

In his new year address in a letter dated January 3, 2023, seen by The City Review Malong, argued judicial reforms is what the citizens need to ensure that everyone is equal before the law.<\/p>\n

\u201cBoth the judiciary and parliament have directly or indirectly joined in the disenfranchisement of our people, Justice is either delayed or denied altogether, with the executive dictating to the judges in the judicial process,\u201d Malong said.<\/p>\n

He expressed said the holdout group would continue to advocate for fair treatment of South Sudanese regardless of their status, tribes and where the come from.<\/p>\n

Malong called for the independence of lawmakers and parliament in order for executive to live to the expectations of the citizens.<\/p>\n

He blamed the lawmakers for failing to review the existing that aims at ensure institutional reforms<\/p>\n

\u201cThe parliament has vehemently remained redundant; it has failed to initiate the review of existing laws adopted from the old Sudan and neglected to introduced positive laws that could reform institutions.\u201d<\/p>\n

He appealed to the government to concentrate on service delivery to meet the demands of the citizens such as quality education and healthcare.<\/p>\n

\u201cSouth Sudanese deserve better education, better hospitals, better roads, access to clean water, and secure environment for the continuance of life and livelihoods,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

He appealed to the government to curb the rate of increasing violence in the country arguing the previous year has been marked by a steady rise of violence and uncertain occurrence.<\/p>\n

He added that the civil population continues to be exposed to severe pain and losses due to the continues violent across the state.<\/p>\n

Malong appealed to the government to use the extended period to shun violence and corruption in the county and work on unity of the people.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also seek the genuine unity of our nationalities based on our shared values, beliefs, morals, and love for one another,\u201d he said<\/p>\n

He expressed that SSUF\/A is committed to work for peace, economic and social transformation in South Sudan as new year commence.<\/p>\n

Rome peace talks<\/b><\/p>\n

However, Malong, whose party is a key component of SSOMA, failed to touch the Rome peace talks meant to lead to an agreement with the government.<\/p>\n

President Salva Kiir suspended the participation in the talks late last year, faulting the peace partners for violating the ceasefire agreement. But in his new year message, President Kiir showed commitment in returning to the negotiating table with the non-signatory parties as he declared 2023 a year of peace,<\/p>\n
