Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Juba City Council has disclosed plans to install a traffic lights system in Juba streets to reduce motorist congestion in the town.<\/p>\n

The Mayor of Juba, Michael Lado Allah-Jabu said the Council plans to install 30 traffic lights.<\/p>\n

Allah-Jabu stated that the cost of one traffic light is between 38-50 million South Sudanese pounds \u2013 putting the overall cost at more than a billion South Sudanese pounds.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have about 30 locations, and we have decided to start with crowded places in the town, in Gudele one and then move on to Seventh-Day roundabout, Custom roundabout, and Juba university roundabout and Buluk junction,\u201d the mayor said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe time frame for implanting this project is three months. The cost of installation of one traffic light is between 38-50 million pounds the implementation of this project will be in phases.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also appealed to Juba residents to cooperate with the Municipal Council in protecting the street lights.<\/p>\n

The Traffic street lights system was provided by the National Company \u2013 SYSKAM for Electrical Technology.<\/p>\n

In 2014, the City Council installed more than 60 solar-powered traffic lights at 50 road intersections across Juba.<\/p>\n

However, most of the street lights are not functioning after they were vandalized or looted during the 2016 violence.<\/p>\n

The new master plan for the traffic lights system will be installed in Lou junction connecting Referendum to Rock City road and Custom to Gudele road.<\/p>\n

Mayor Michael Allah-Jabu further said the work will improve the traffic and facilitate the movement of the people.<\/p>\n
