Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>With the exception of candidates, students in primary and secondary schools will have no time off this year after the government released the calendar for the 2023 academic year, which is jam-packed with activities.<\/p>\n

According to a statement issued on Monday by Dr Kuyok Abol Kuyok, Undersecretary in the Ministry of General Education and Instructions, the new academic will begin on February 6, 2023, and end on December 22, 2023.<\/p>\n

The calendar was changed following the outbreak of Covid-19 in 2019.<\/p>\n

As a result of the interruptions, schools have been operating on an irregular calendar. The 2022\u20132023 academic year, for example, began in May, and the schools were expected to close the year in March 2023.<\/p>\n

Kuyok, however, said all schools will now break for a three-week holiday to allow for primary 8 and senior 4 candidates to write their final exams before the next academic year begins.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will close schools for a week for the conduct of the examinations for the primary leaving certificates and two weeks for secondary education certificate, respectively. \u201cIt is important that all schools adhere to the academic calendar, any school found in breach will be penalised,\u201d the official warned.<\/p>\n

This means schools will now have to complete teaching whatever remains of the curriculum and conduct promotional exams for the third term alongside the national exams for candidate classes within the remaining days of January before the next academic year begins in February.<\/p>\n

It also means that two groups of secondary school students will graduate in 2023, putting pressure on higher education institutions.<\/p>\n

Those promoted to the next classes will not have time to rest and prepare for the next academic year.<\/p>\n
