Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The United States has expressed deep concerns about the widespread abduction of children and women in South Sudan.<\/p>\n

Ambassador to South Sudan, Michael Adler called on the government to urgently bring an end to the subnational violence.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn South Sudan, we are gravely concerned about reports of women and children being abducted, including within the context of subnational violence. We are equally concerned by continued reports of the recruitment and use of child soldiers.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe renew our call for South Sudan\u2019s leaders to act with urgency to end subnational violence and to hold accountable those responsible for abductions and for all other forms of human rights,\u201d he said in a statement seen by The City Review yesterday.<\/p>\n

The US also expressed concerns about the alleged report about the recruitment of children into the armed forces.<\/p>\n

Adler\u2019s statement comes as the US government dedicates the month of January to raising awareness about human trafficking. The month is also dedicated to honouring the achievements of those dedicated to raising awareness about ending human trafficking.<\/p>\n

According to a report by the United States Department published last year, South Sudanese and foreign businesspeople have continued to exploit South Sudanese girls in sex trafficking in restaurants, hotels, and brothels in urban centres\u2014at times with the involvement of corrupt law enforcement officials.<\/p>\n

Several children and women were abducted from Pibor by a group of Jonglei armed youth following their attack on the area on December 24, 2022.<\/p>\n

The clashes in the two counties of Gumuruk and Likuangole in the Greater Pibor region left over 40 people dead and tens of thousands displaced.<\/p>\n

However, since then, the authorities of Jonglei have managed to recover over 60 children from the armed youth and handed them over to Pibor administration.<\/p>\n

But Pibor authorities said an estimated 2,000 abductees including over 1,000 children, were yet to be recovered according to a story published by Eye Radio.<\/p>\n
