Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span> <\/b> South Sudan advocacy group, the Center for Peace and Advocacy (CPA), on Wednesday called on President Salva Kiir Mayardit to pardon and release human rights activist Mr. Morris Mabior Awikjok.<\/p>\n

The group said Morris Mabior should be granted pardon like 36 inmates on death row who were recently forgiven by the President.<\/p>\n

\u201cCenter for Peace and Advocacy (CPA) says President Salva Kiir just ordered the release of 36 imamates; this is a sense of forgiveness and a pure heart for humanity,\u201d read parts of a statement seen by Sudans Post on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis spirit should also apply to Morris Mabior Awikjok to be forgiven by the state. Every person is innocent until proven guilty,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n

The group said the recent visit of Holiness Pope Francis should be seen as touching forgiveness regardless of the amount of the crime committed by an individual<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone charged with a penal offense has the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty according to the law in a public trial at which he has had all the guarantees necessary for his defense.\u201d<\/p>\n

Morris was arrested along Kangundo road at his home in Kenya on Saturday, February 4, by individuals his wife, Angelina Aliet, claimed to be police officers from Kenya.<\/p>\n

Aliet alleged the armed individuals ransacked their house, confiscated their phones and laptops, and handcuffed her husband.<\/p>\n

Morris was seeking asylum in Kenya after fallout with government officials in South Sudan and had since lived in Kenya for two years.<\/p>\n

He has been vigilant about matters of governance, corruption, and leadership he believed had caused his people harm.<\/p>\n

A source in Juba claimed Mabior was extradited from Kenya and handed over to National Security Service who put him behind bars at Blue House.<\/p>\n

On February 6th, 2023 the Dawn Daily Newspaper \u2013 which was identified by a US-based watchdog, The Sentry, earlier this year as a NSS outlet \u2013 wrote in a story that \u201cFacebook Activist Morris Mabior Awikjok extradited to Juba to face charges.\u201d<\/p>\n
