Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Members of Nadiangere village in Yambio County, Western Equatoria State have resorted to using rudimentary equipment to construct a community road for ease of access to nearby shopping centres<\/p>\n

The villagers, tired of the poor road network in the area are using manual tools such as hoes, axes, and machetes to clear the roads.<\/p>\n

Nadiangere village is about 105 miles from Yambio town. According to the community, it had never had a proper road that links it to the state capital.<\/p>\n

Last year, the community hooped together to launch a road project to connect the village to other nearby neighbouring towns so that the village could access markets.<\/p>\n

The community told Governor Alfred Futuyo during his visit to the area last weekend that they were tired of waiting for government support.<\/p>\n

The area chief Simon Pandee said the community has decided not to wait for external support.<\/p>\n

He said the ongoing community road clearance is about 65 miles that stretch from Nadiangere to Maridi, and is expected to be completed within two weeks.<\/p>\n

Pandee said the road initiative was inspired by the community\u2019s desire to ensure access to services.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere has been no passing road since this place was created, but because we have nearby other towns, we find it easy to open the road to connect our place with neighbours.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe that by doing so, we will have access to the market with our farm products, and when people use this road, we will benefit like other places,\u201d he emphasized.<\/p>\n

He stated that half of the 65 Nadiangere-Maridi road work has already been completed and that the working group may be able to reach Maridi in the coming days.<\/p>\n

He added that once the Nadiangere-Maridi project is completed, the community intends to open the other roads from Nadiangere to Rumbek and Tambura, as well as other parts of the village.<\/p>\n

The community leader also urged the government and non-governmental organizations the construction of better roads and bridges on those roads.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Governor Futuyo expressed gratitude to the community and promised to provide them with tools.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe distance between Yambio and Nadiangere Payam is 105 miles, and this location was locked. That is why I told the community to start clearing the road on their own so that we, the government, could come and help them, including the organization \u201cFutuyo stated.<\/p>\n

He said developing a nation is everyone\u2019s responsibility and the community starting such an initiative by themselves was always something great and will always motivate the government and other partners to help them.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am pleased with what you are doing; you have done and continue to do excellent work, from here we are going to work together to complete the project,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
