Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Nile City FC broke a three-year trophy drought after clinching the Yambio Local League trophy.<\/p>\n

The new champs last won a league cup in 2019. They would later go on to represent Yambio Local Football Association at the national level, where they finished first runners-up that year.<\/p>\n

However, the last 32 months has a bumpy ride for Nile City, having endured the COVID and post-pandemic periods without a major trophy since losing the national titles to finals to El Rabita.<\/p>\n

Of course in their dimly lit days, the Yambio Stars emerged and won the league title for three consecutive years hence denying them a chance to appear at the national level stage.<\/p>\n

The \u2018Nile boys\u2019 however, shook off a three-year spell to finish the season five points clear of their closest challenger for a record fourth league cup.<\/p>\n

Their last game of the season was against Al Taharir FC, which ended in a 1-1 draw.<\/p>\n

The team led by Coach Emmanuel Arama will now return to the capital Juba for the 2023\u201324 South Sudan National Competition.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a great moment for the Nile City bouncing back to claim their fourth league title, and this time Yambio Football Association will be presented by a new club,\u201d Joseph Ndepi, Yambio Local Football Association President, told The City Review.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Juba National Stadium may open its doors to fans for the first time in almost two years, in May 2023.<\/p>\n

The South Sudan Football Association said yesterday that the ongoing work is expected to conclude by the end of the month to pave the way for the official opening of the new-look facility, Charles Udwar, the SSFA vice president, said.<\/p>\n

The renovation work at the only standard facility in the country that can host an international match started in April 2019.<\/p>\n

The project, however, is over three years behind schedule.<\/p>\n

The project was funded by FIFA to the tune of $5 million.<\/p>\n
