The men\u2019s national football team (Bright Stars) may play their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against The Gambia at home.<\/p>\n

South Sudan will host Gambia on Match Day 5 on June 16. The national football body said the fixture could be played at the Juba National Stadium, which is currently closed for renovation.<\/p>\n

The stadium has been closed for renovation for the last five years.<\/p>\n

The construction began on April 5, 2019, and was initially planned to be completed in February 2020, according to the recommendation from FIFA and CAF.<\/p>\n

Since then, the nation\u2019s only anticipated stadium has yet to welcome local fans.<\/p>\n

Yesterday, the South Sudan Football Association hinted that the stadium may open as early as the end of May 2023.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe construction is scheduled to be finished in May, and South Sudan anticipates hosting its AFCON Qualifiers match against the Gambia at the stadium,\u201d the SSFA stated.<\/p>\n

Although they did not provide a specific date, the group stressed that the stadium\u2019s official opening would probably take place near the end of the next month.<\/p>\n

The project was funded by FIFA for $5 million.<\/p>\n

The Juba National Stadium\u2019s artificial turf installation received FIFA approval for the certification process last year.<\/p>\n

Before it is opened, FIFA, the world\u2019s football governing body, will have to pass a certification mark standards to allow teh only standard stadia in te country host international matches.<\/p>\n
