Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The government of United States has appealed to its citizens to consider leaving Ethiopia after rebel Tigray People\u2019s Liberation Front\u2019s (TPLF) advance triggered panic in the country\u2019s capital Addis Ababa.<\/p>\n

In a security alert issued today, the United States Embassy in Addis Ababa stressed that the security situation in the East African country has been deteriorating in recent days with the rebel capture of two strategic cities close to Addis Ababa.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe security environment in Ethiopia has deteriorated significantly in the last several days with a continued escalation of armed conflict and civil unrest in Amhara, Afar and Tigray,\u201d the security alert seen by Sudans Post reads in part.<\/p>\n

\u201cA significant portion of the A2 highway connecting Addis Ababa with cities to the north has been restricted by Federal authorities which has led to disruptions, stranded travelers, and a generally non-permissive travel environment,\u201d it adds.<\/p>\n

The alert further said movement for US embassy personnel outside Addis Ababa has been limited and that personnel are only required to limit their movements within the capital.<\/p>\n

It warned against all travels to Ethiopia and urged those already in the country to consider taking steps to prepare for departure as security situation deteriorates further.<\/p>\n

\u201cU.S. Embassy personnel are currently restricted from traveling outside of Addis Ababa city limits,\u201d the embassy alert said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe strongly suggest that U.S. citizens seriously reconsider travel to Ethiopia and those who are currently in Ethiopia consider making preparations to leave the country,\u201d it adds.<\/p>\n
