Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Sudan People\u2019s Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) has raised concerns over the delay in reconstituting the drafting of the permanent constitution.<\/p>\n

SPLM-IO deputy chairman, Oyet Nathaniel, told The City Review that the party had already prepared the list of its nominees and had been waiting for the SPLM-IG to do the same.<\/p>\n

This comes nearly a week after the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC) informed parliament that the main parties to the agreement had not submitted a list of their nominees for the establishment and drafting of the permanent constitution.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe issue with names is not a problem; we have the names ready, but the problem is a lack of readiness by SPLM-IG in ensuring that these bodies are reconstituted,\u201d Oyet said.<\/p>\n

He questioned why the other parties were dragging their feet in releasing the names of their nominees.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey (SPLM-IG) are the ones delaying the process.\u201d<\/p>\n

Oyet claimed that there is an intention to avoid the execution of the agreement to reform the country through the government\u2019s social and political systems.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been telling our counterpart in the SPLM-IG to fast-track the process of the reconstitution of the independent commissions.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are calling for these institutions to be reconstituted as soon as possible, but all we see is a lack of political will and unnecessary delays,\u201d Oyet said.<\/p>\n

However, laying the groundwork for a census, a permanent constitution, security arrangements, the reconstitution of independent commissions, and judicial reorganization is critical so that if there is any dispute with the election, people go to court.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey don\u2019t have any political will to hold the national elections; an election is not an event but a process,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

He said there has also been a delay in distributing responsibility in the three administrative areas of Pibor, Abyei, and Ruweng.<\/p>\n

Also, he described the implementation of the roadmap as a stalemate due to the lack of critical steps taken since August, making it slow and ineffective.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that the SPLM is killing the process of the election and the implementation of the peace agreement.<\/p>\n

However, several attempts to reach the government spokesperson, Michael Makuei, by press time were futile.<\/p>\n
