Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC) said funds should be availed to support the operation of national peace monitoring institutions.<\/p>\n

\u201cContinued adherence to a permanent ceasefire is a central pillar of this agreement,\u201d Charles Gituai, RJMEC interim chairman, said when he briefed parliament on the status of the peace agreement\u2019s implementation.<\/p>\n

He stated that allocating funds, particularly for national members of the Ceasefire Transitional Security Arrangement, Monitoring, and Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM), is critical.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is important for the R-TGoNU to remedy the recurrence of a lack of adequate and unpredictable funding to the mechanisms that continue to impede the implementation of the agreement,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n

In March CTSAM-VM revealed that its national workers had not received a salary for at least ten months. They had previously set down their tool in protest of the unpaid arrears.<\/p>\n

With a staff of 15 monitors, only two (foreign nationals) are paid by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) while the rest 13 draw their salaries and allowances from the exchequer.<\/p>\n
