Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>South Sudan will be seeking long-term financing from the World Bank and International Monitory Fund IMF.<\/p>\n

This was part of the discussion between the two world lenders and the South Sudanese delegation that recently returned from Washington DC.<\/p>\n

The South Sudan team was led by Finance Minister Dier Tong Ngor, Central Bank Governor Johnny Ohisa Damian and Undersecretary for Planning Angelo Deng Rehan.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe IMF is poised to transition from the short-term assistance it has provided South Sudan to a more medium- and long-term credit facility, which the government hopes to achieve by the end of 2023,\u201d Dier noted.<\/p>\n

According to Dier, they also updated World Bank and IMF on the development steps South Sudan has been undertaking amidst the ongoing peace implementation process.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe went there to fulfill our obligations as IMF and World Bank members.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe purpose of the trip was also to seek funds and technical assistance from global financial institutions to support the government\u2019s projects,\u201d Tong told SSBC upon their arrival.<\/p>\n

According to Dier, both the IMF and the World Bank have pledged to assist South Sudan.<\/p>\n

The World Bank is also assisting South Sudan in improving major development initiatives such as infrastructure, digital integration, and energy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe World Bank has already committed 848 million dollars to a number of government projects involving roads, digital integration with the East African region, energy, agriculture, and water management.\u201d<\/p>\n

The World Bank\u2019s Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa, Victoria Kwakwa, stated last month that the international community was ready to assist South Sudan as long as there was a peaceful climate that would allow the World Bank-supported projects to be implemented.<\/p>\n
