Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>South Sudan will continue to mount efforts to ensure a structured peace dialogue that will end the conflict in Sudan.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued a statement on Saturday indicating that President Salva Kiir is continuing his efforts to persuade the two conflicting parties in Sudan to return to the negotiating table.<\/p>\n

According to the statement, President Kiir spoke with the Chairman of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, on April 25, 2023, and then proceeded to have another discussion with Lieutenant General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, Commander of the Rapid Support Forces, on April 29, 2023.<\/p>\n

\u201cKiir conveyed to the two parties the necessity of respecting the ceasefire, allowing humanitarian aid, medical supplies, and food supplies to arrive, in addition to providing safe passages for the evacuation of foreigners and Sudanese to safe areas,\u201d notes the statement from the foreign affairs ministry.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe President also called on the two parties to enter into a settlement of the conflict through dialogue.\u201d<\/p>\n

It further indicated that South Sudan is working \u201cthrough communication with the Sudanese parties to push them to accept a more sustainable ceasefire, through confidence-building measures between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces that could pave the way for a friendly political settlement.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the declared truce and international efforts to stop the fighting, the battles between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces are entering their third week. It has left more than 500 dead and thousands wounded, according to figures from the Sudanese Ministry of Health.<\/p>\n

The army announced on Saturday that units of the Central Reserve Police had begun to work gradually in the areas south of Khartoum, and that their deployment would follow successively in the areas of the capital.<\/p>\n

Within the framework of regional and international efforts to stop the fighting in Sudan, Djiboutian Foreign Affairs Minister, Mahmoud Ali Yusuf, said that there is a proposal to hold a meeting of the foreign ministers of South Sudan, Kenya, and Djibouti with envoys from the two parties to the conflict outside Sudan.<\/p>\n

Yusuf expressed concern about the widening circle of conflict in Sudan, stressing that the collapse of the state will have disastrous consequences for the African continent.<\/p>\n
