Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>At least 100 students have been trained as peace educators from various schools within Juba.<\/p>\n

Addressing the media on Saturday, Executive Director for New Gen Peace Builders, Patricia Shater, said the aim of the workshop was to equip the youth with knowledge on peace and how to build peace.<\/p>\n

\u201cStudents in South Sudan are learning about the drivers of conflict and peace and how to be peaceful in the communities, just like the students in many other countries,\u201d Shater said.<\/p>\n

He added that those trained would receive certificates as new agents of peace to go and educate their fellow students and the communities as well.<\/p>\n

She stressed that the programme is called New Agents of Peace for secondary schools and higher institutions of learning.<\/p>\n

The organisation plans to extend the training to several other schools to ensure that youth take an effective part in bringing peace in schools and communities.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have mentors from several universities involved, and students will be trained as peace promoters,\u201d she said<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the things that is very exciting about the programme now is that there are students from Central, Eastern, Western, Bar el Ghazal, and Ruweng Administrative Areas going to schools in Juba, so it\u2019s exciting to have different states represented,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Keji Manas, one of the trainees, said: \u201cWe are so excited with this workshop because we will have enough knowledge about peace to be able to spread it to others and have a peaceful society.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a need for us as youth to use this opportunity to get the knowledge that we can use to spread peace in our schools and our communities,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She appreciated the organisation for giving youth a platform to gain knowledge.<\/p>\n

Another participant, Nelson Jacob, said the training would help in building peace in various schools and appealed to the youth to shun violence.<\/p>\n
