A groundbreaking human trial is underway in the United States for a new type of pill designed to neutralize the harmful effects of radioactive contamination in the body, specifically targeting potential dirty-bomb materials like uranium.<\/p>\n

Known as HOPO 14-1, this drug could provide protection against nuclear accidents or terrorist attacks if proven safe and effective.<\/p>\n

The trial, led by SRI International of Menlo Park, California, with funding from the National Institutes of Health, will involve approximately 42 volunteers who will receive varying doses of the drug.
