Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Juba City Council will form a task force to oversee the implementation of the order capping the prices of water charged by sellers in the city.<\/p>\n

The council stated that the step was taken upon noting an increment in the price of water in the city by water tankers.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the press after the meeting on Wednesday, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of Juba City, Mogga Ngwangki, said the city council would form a task force to oversee the enforcement of the local order issued by Mayor Michael Allah Jabu.<\/p>\n

Mogga said the task force committee will monitor the implementation of the temporary orders for the reduction of the water price in Juba City.<\/p>\n

\u201cUntil now, the water tank drivers did not implement the order; that is why we are here to form the taskforce that will oversee the implementation of the orders in the city,\u201d Mogga said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur citizens, let no water tank drivers deceive you; currently, a barrel of water is SSP 800 for the nearby places and SSP 1000 for the far areas, and if anyone deceives you, just call the committee,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mogga urged the water tank drivers to implement the order in letter and spirit without any discussion or negotiation.<\/p>\n

Rahama Saeed, a resident of Kator, said the water tank drivers have not been adhering to the orders issued by the authority.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis morning I filled the drum of water with SSP 1,500. I told the driver that the state government has issued an order for the reduction of water, but he refused,\u201d Rahama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese water tanker drivers normally threaten the citizens with some army generals who are behind them; we want Juba City Council to address this issue,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Saeed said the Juba City Council should follow the implementation of the orders until the foreign water drivers stop threatening them with army generals.<\/p>\n

However, the Chairperson of the Central Equatoria drivers\u2019 union, Isaac Osfaldo, said, \u201cWe are ready to implement the orders.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the foreign [drivers] refuse to drive the water tankers, we have a lot of drivers on the ground with whom we will continue our work since this is our country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Allah Jabu issued a local order for the prices of water in the city after realising that the water tankers increased their prices of water from SSP 1000 to SSP 1,500 without notice from the government.<\/b><\/p>\n
