Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Vice President of the Economic Cluster, Dr. James Wani Igga, urged the leaders of Upper Nile State to stop the inter-communal conflict in Malakal Protection of Civilian Sites (PoCs).<\/p>\n

Igga made the plea after meeting the community leaders from the five tribes of Upper Nile State in Malakal on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The meeting brought all five communities of Upper Nile State together to reconcile and foster peace and unity among themselves.<\/p>\n

In a statement from the official page of the governor of Upper Nile State, James Odhok Oyay, the vice president, Dr. Igga, met with the leaders to reconcile the five communities after the conflict that erupted in Malakal PoCs.<\/p>\n

Wani urged the communities of Upper Nile State to forget the ethnic disputes and channel their energy to peace-building and reconciliation in the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll the community leaders expressed their grievances and sought forgiveness among themselves to promote peace and unity and foster development in the state,\u201d Dr. Igga said.<\/p>\n

He highlighted that some of the recommendations from the community leaders will be discussed by the national government, especially the modalities of handing over the security of the PoCs site to the government of South Sudan.<\/p>\n

However, the community leaders from the PoCs blamed UNMISS for allowing the brutality to take place on their watch without intervening despite apparent early warning signs of the threat.<\/p>\n

The community leaders called on the state government to take full responsibility for the PoCs, citing UNMISS\u2019s failure to provide the expected security at the site.<\/p>\n

According to the local community in the PoCs, the inter-communal fight erupted in Malakal PoCs last week due to a lack of space for settlement in the camp.<\/p>\n

According to the UNMISS on Friday, the death toll has increased from three to seventeen after the victims who were admitted to a local hospital succumbed to their wounds.<\/p>\n
