This is because nicknames are said to be powerful things and provide great insight into the country itself.<\/p>\n

Many countries in Africa and the world, except South Sudan, have nicknames that describe their natural landscapes, history, and diversity.<\/p>\n

Nigeria is referred to as the \u2018Giant of Africa\u2019 for its vast land and cultural diversity.<\/p>\n

Cuba is affectionately known as the \u2018Sugar Bowl of the World\u2019, due to its being a major exporter of the world\u2019s sweetest product.<\/p>\n

Japan is nicknamed the Land of Rising Sun for being from a geographical perspective, where the sun appears to \u201crise.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chile is now referred to as the Land of Poets after the country\u2019s poets won the Nobel Prize twice (Gabriela Mistral in 1945 and Pablo Neruda in 1971).<\/p>\n

And U.S.A. is known as Uncle Sam after Sam Wilson, a meat packer from New York, who supplied the U.S. army with beef in the War of 1812.<\/p>\n

South Africa is the \u2018Rainbow Nation\u2019, Rwanda is named the \u2018Land of a Thousand Hills\u2019, and Egypt is called the \u2018Gift of the Nile.\u2019<\/p>\n

Uganda is known as the Pearl of Africa, and Kenya is known as the Pride of Africa.<\/p>\n

On July 8, 2023, Eye Radio posted a question on its official Facebook page which reads, \u201cAs we celebrate the 12th Anniversary of our independence, what nickname do you think suits South Sudan to be referred to\u201d?<\/p>\n

The post trended and reached nearly 40,000 people and attracted nearly 2,000 comments in less than two days.<\/p>\n

According to Facebook analytics, it was Eye Radio\u2019s highest-performing post, with over a 6,000 per cent performance rate.<\/p>\n

Many South Sudanese appeared passionate about the topic and flooded the post that was also on Instagram with comments suggesting various nicknames.<\/p>\n

Here are the most suggested nicknames for South Sudan.<\/p>\n

\u201cSouth Sudan, The Face of Africa,\u201d proposed Kai Wan.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Land of Strong-hearted, Dark, Smooth, and Gainful People\u201d said Thii Cit Arialbek from Warrap.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Land of Abundance\u201d commented Riak Machar Pathot.<\/p>\n

\u201cShining Star of Africa\u201d, Nen Chuong Luk suggested.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Land of Great Abundance,\u201d said Hon. Pualino Lukudu Obede.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Warriors of Africa\u201d, Fresh Savat.<\/p>\n

\u201cLand of Great Abundance\u201d, Gore Kuol.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Land of Kush\u201d, Lau Gakov.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Land of Great Abundance\u201d, Quin Viola.<\/p>\n

From the above and many other preferred nicknames, the majority of South Sudanese support \u201cThe Land of Great Abundance\u201d \u2013 a phrase in the National Anthem.<\/p>\n
