Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The council of ministers approved the logo for financial intelligence unit after the presentation by the minister of finance and planning, Dier Tong Ngor, last Friday.<\/p>\n

Addressing the press, Information Minister Michael Makuei, said the Financial Intelligence (FIU) is a security unit in the Ministry of Finance in charge of monitoring money laundering in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis FIU was established by an act in 2012 and it was made to combat financial crimes and Money laundering under the Ministry of Finance,\u201d Makuei said.<\/p>\n

\u201cFinancial crimes are not crimes only in South Sudan but all over the world, our unit (FIU) had been operating but had not been operating to the level because all these crimes are developing by date,\u201d Makuei said.<\/p>\n

He said the government would make sure that it was fully equipped and ready to fight cybercrime.<\/p>\n

He said the minister also asked for an increase in the budget for the FIU to enable him to implement his work fully and satisfactorily.<\/p>\n

However, Makuei said the minister of finance did not indicate the amount needed for the FIU because the budget is before parliament and there is no way the government can make the FIU allocation. He said it would be included in the supplementary budget.<\/p>\n
