Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Council of Ministers directed the minister of federal affairs, Lasuba Wongo, to conduct research on the citizens\u2019 views on their preferred model of federalism.<\/p>\n

Addressing the media after Friday\u2019s council of ministers, the minister of information, Michael Makuei said Wongo had informed the council about the plan to hold a national conference on federalism and had requested $657,106 for the exercise.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ministry of finance has been directed to pay this amount from the peace fund, which is in our current budget,\u201d Makuei revealed.<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cSo, it will be paid there, and after the availability of that amount, then we will fix a day.\u201d<\/p>\n

The parties to the peace agreement signed the peace agreement in 2018, proposing that South Sudan have a federal system.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the agreement, we have agreed that South Sudan shall have a federal system, but we did not agree as to which type of federalism it will be,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe minister is authorized to search for all the possible available federal systems so that he can recommend to the people of South Sudan which federal system is best for the country,\u201d Makuei added.<\/p>\n
