Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span> <\/b> South Sudan\u2019s main opposition Sudan People\u2019s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) led by First Vice President Riek Machar has said that the deployment of the Necessary Unified Forces (NUF) will take place in a matter of two or three weeks.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Sudans Post this morning, Puok Both Baluang, Press Secretary in the Office of the First Vice President said the deployment of forces was delayed due to lack of food for the forces, something he said has been addressed now.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, I can confirm that the deployment of the NUF will take place in a matter of two or three weeks. What prevented the deployment of forces is the lack of food and now that the food has arrived for the forces, the deployment will start,\u201d Baluang said.<\/p>\n

Baluang who is also the SPLM-IO Director of Information and Public Relations added that the deployment of the forces will be carried out in areas of priorities, hotspots, and the country\u2019s border with Sudan.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe deployment of the forces will be carried out in areas of priorities, hotspots, and our border with Sudan because there is insecurity there and we need to protect out border. So, some of the forces will be deployed to those areas,\u201d Baluang said.<\/p>\n

The deployment of the NUF is a key provision of the 2018 peace agreement that ended the civil war in South Sudan.<\/p>\n

It is also an important provision for conduct of democratic elections.<\/p>\n

The revitalized peace agreement calls for the establishment of a unified national army to protect civilians and maintain security across the country.<\/p>\n

The deployment of the NUF has been delayed several times due to a lack of funding, logistical challenges, and lack of will from the parties.<\/p>\n
