Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The National Audit Chamber will release the audit report of the Rumbek road construction next week, said Steven Wondu, the auditor-general.<\/p>\n Speaking during the opening of the workshop for the parliamentarians and the auditors yesterday in Juba, Wondu said the National Audit Chamber has the responsibility to look into how the resources are used and prepare a report for scrutiny in Parliament.<\/p>\n However, Wondu said the lawmakers are yet to take their duties seriously as there are many pending reports before them.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Rumbek road audit report is out and will be released next week for the public to know. There are a lot of reports in the parliament that the parliament is not following; there is a need for the reports to be presented for public consumption,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Mr Wondu alleged that one of the reports yet to be debated is the 2015 one on the appropriation of three per cent and two per cent oil money wired to the communities of Upper Nile and Unity states.<\/p>\n \u201cSo, next week I will be releasing a performance audit report for the Rumbek road, the report was completed two weeks ago and is about what has happened there,\u201d he assured.<\/p>\n According to him, one of the responsibilities of the auditors is to monitor the misuse of public funds and report to parliament. He said it is now up to the lawmakers to act on the report.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, the Deputy Chairperson for the Public and Accounts Committee, Martin Odwar, said the aim of the training was to enhance cooperation between the national audit chamber and the public account committee in Parliament.<\/p>\n \u201cThere are a lot of reports from the audit chamber lying in the parliament, this report needs to be brought up and presented to the August House.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have put pressure on the administration of the parliament, and the Speaker agrees that the audit report will soon be presented to the parliament,\u201d Odwar said.<\/p>\n He appealed to the partners and the National Audit Chamber to help the lawmakers learn how to organise the reports conducted by the auditor general.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are entering a very busy moment in our committee; there are three bills referred to our committee from Parliament, one of which is the bill of anti-corruption, the bill of the public finance management account, and the accountability plus revenue authority bill we need to scrutinize that and come up with reports and take them back to parliament,\u201d Odwar stated.<\/p>\n The Rumbek Road construction was launched in 2020 by the government.
