Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>A court in Malakai, Juba, ordered for the arrest of the Managing Director of Supreme Airline Ayii Duang Ayii after he failed to compensate the victims of the plane crash as had been ruled by the court.<\/p>\n

Ayii was locked up in Juba Central Prison on Thursday at 1:00 pm after he failed to pay $170, 000 compensation to each of the families of the victims who died in the of the plane crash of in 2021, in Pieri Airstrip, Uror County.<\/p>\n

\u201cAyii was locked up in Juba Central prison at 1:00 pm because he failed to pay the compensation, he will be in prison until he pays the money,\u201d the court said.<\/p>\n

After several adjournments, the presiding judge James Lado finally delivered the verdict in February, 2023, ordering the grounded airline to pay each of the victims $170, 000 (SSP 170 million) as compensation.<\/p>\n

In addition, Supreme Airline was ordered to pay 10 percent (approximately SSP 1 million) to the lawyer who represented the victims.<\/p>\n

Ten people\u2014eight passengers and two flight crew members\u2014perished when aircraft number HK-4274 belonging to South Supreme Airlines crashed at Pieri Airstrip in Uror County in March 2021, killing at least eight passengers and two pilots onboard.<\/p>\n

However, the cases of the pilot and the other crew members are still pending in the high court.<\/p>\n
