The Chairperson for Political Affairs of the Kit-gwang group, Paul Achut, said Agwelek forces are ready for integration into the SSPDF.<\/p>\n

Speaking to The City Review, Achut said the government had started delivering food and other supplies to their forces and that they are now ready for the process of integration as they had agreed with the government under the Khartoum Peace Agreement.<\/p>\n

\u201cGeneral (Johnson Olony) has been here for three and a half months now since he arrived from Malakal; he met President Salva Kiir, and the President gave his directive to all the security organs to start the process of integrating Kit-gwang forces,\u201d Achut said.<\/p>\n

Although he lamented that the process was very slow, he added that \u201cwe understand that the government is going through some economic constraints that are affecting the implementation of the signed deal\u201d.<\/p>\n

He said the residents of Upper Nile were upbeat that the implementation of the signed agreement would end their troubles, majorly insecurity-related.<\/p>\n

\u201cAbout a month ago, the ministry of defense sent us a letter asking us to select five generals headed by a major general, so these five generals will team up with five generals from the government side [for integration],\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He a committee of 10 people would start the process of integrating the forces after the president\u2019s directive.<\/p>\n

He said the implementation of the revitalised peace agreement was slow but there are commendable milestones so far achieved by the government, and there is confidence that it will end on time.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are confident that this peace agreement will be implemented and we will see peace not only in Upper Nile State but the greater Upper Nile and the entire South Sudan. What we need is to be patient and patient and patient.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Khartoum Peace Agreement was signed in 2022 and was supposed to oversee the establishment of coordination offices in Juba, Malakal, and Bor to assist in the process of assembling and reintegrating the Kitgwang faction.<\/p>\n

The peace agreement also guarantees the implementation of the security arrangements and a permanent ceasefire and grants the Kitgwang faction amnesty, containment, and reintegration of the breakaway SPLA-IO forces into the SSPDF within three months, among others.<\/p>\n
