Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Nicholas Ramadan, a manager of Gabat Port, denied any responsibility for a fire that razed down a boat that was transporting goods to Jonglei from Juba yesterday.<\/p>\n

The boat which was headed to Fangak caught fire at 9:05am damaging most of the goods loaded for transit but no one was killed on injured.<\/p>\n

Speaking to The City Review yesterday after the incident, Ramdan said the 120 ton-capacity boat, owned by one Riing Gai and managed by Gatwich Biel, was loaded with world relief items besides other goods which were transported by traders. He said the fire was triggered by an empty diesel drum which was not properly cleaned prior to the departure.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe incident happened out of Gabat port and the person who brought the diesel is called John Kuten, but there was no approval from the port administration, they did not come to the office to take the approval,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The inspector who was on duty, Modu Nelson, confirmed that after conducting her investigation, she discovered that the owner of the boat did not get the clearance from the port.<\/p>\n

John Pingrin, who works at the CID department, also said they were not aware of the incident at the time and that they would have ensured adherence to procedure.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis thing was connected locally we were not aware, if we could be aware we would have done our procedures of first loading the diesel then followed by the goods, but what happen we were not around,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
