Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Residents in the Jonglei State capital, Bor town, started accessing clean drinking piped water months after the town’s water plant was rendered ineffective by floodwaters.<\/p>\n

John Jurkuc, the Bor water station manager, said Tuesday appealed to the townsfolk who use piped water to pay their dues so that the plant remains operational.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn Monday we managed to resume the production and supply of clean drinking water to the population of Bor town,\u201d Jurkuc said. \u201cMy message is that those connected to water supply lines should pay us for the running of the facility.\u201d<\/p>\n

He revealed that the water supply resumed after repair works on the dilapidated plant caused by floodwaters in September were completed Monday and that the water plant will remain operational. Reacting to the news, several Bor residents welcomed the resumption of the supply of clean water.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am happy that water supply resumed again after months of waiting in long queues for hours to get water from boreholes,\u201d Bor resident May Atong said. \u201cThis (piped) water is safe because it has been purified.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another resident, John Deng, who could not also hide his happiness called on the local government to connect the rest of the town that is still cut off from the clean water supply.<\/p>\n

Bor water station, the state’s main clean water supplier was forced to shut down in September this year after the facility was submerged by floodwaters.<\/p>\n
