Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The commissioner-general of the National Revenue Authority, Athian Diing Athian, gave taxpayers 24 hours to pay their taxes starting today.<\/p>\n In a statement issued yesterday by the National Revenue Authority, the process to \u201cfile and pay of sales tax, excise tax, personal income tax (withholding on wages), and personal income tax for entrepreneurs are due on September 15, 2023.\u201d<\/p>\n It said after the above date, a campaign to enforce the recovery of unpaid taxes would be mounted without further notice.<\/p>\n \u201cNRA officers will carry out enforcement visits at taxpayers\u2019 premises in order to recover any debt due to the government,\u201d Athian said in the statement.<\/p>\n \u201cYou are kindly reminded to submit your returns and settle your tax liabilities, including any arrears, on or before the above-specified date in order to avoid penalties, interest, and any associated inconveniences.\u201d<\/p>\n When asked why the information was on a short note, the Deputy Commissioner of Taxpayer Service and Education at the NRA, Ngunjock Chuol, said they had been conducting they had been educating the taxpayers during the registration.<\/p>\n \u201cWe normally educate the taxpayer during the registration, and we tell them the importance of paying taxes in the country; so it is time to remind those who did not pay the taxes,\u201d Chuol said.<\/p>\n Chuol called on the taxpayers to pay the taxes voluntarily and avoid the penalties from the NRA.<\/p>\n In June, the National Revenue Authority (NRA) promised to embark on rolling out an elaborate tax base expansion program aimed at yielding up to SSP 40 billion per month by the end of the coming financial year.<\/p>\n The commissioner-general, Athian Diing Athian, said the NRA plans to empower the domestic tax division to identify more taxpayers through access to key databases in both the private and public sectors.<\/p>\n \u201cData shall be sourced from major private players, including key public infrastructure contractors and hospitality service providers, including major hotels, to ensure that they pay their fair share of taxes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cWe shall review all exemptions to ensure that only statutory institutions are granted exemptions and all other illegal exemptions are nullified.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe Nimule Dry Port shall be expanded and sufficient.
