Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Some South Sudanese diaspora in the United States say they were glad to meet President Salva Kiir in New York with some of them calling for timely, free, fair, credible, and peaceful elections next year.<\/p>\n

This is the first time for the president to attend and participate in a UN General Assembly since 2014.<\/p>\n

President Kiir is expected to address the UN 78th General Assembly on Thursday.<\/p>\n

On Monday a political analyst described the participation of President Salva Kiir in the UN General Assembly in New York as an opportunity for him to move as the country gears towards elections amid the sanctions and arms embargo.<\/p>\n

Professor Abraham Kuol said that through this general assembly, President Kiir will be able to tell the meeting about issues that are facing the implementation of the peace agreement.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the state-own TV, some South Sudanese in the US say they are excited the see the president in New York.<\/p>\n

One of them said: \u201cWe are very excited to have him here attending the UN General Assembly, and we support the peace in our country, we are preparing ourselves for the election coming 2024, we need it to be a peaceful election as we end the transitional period of the government in our country.<\/p>\n

The male diaspora added: \u201cWe also want to ask all the diaspora that now our country is peaceful and people can go back home and participate in economic development and prosperity, said one of the diaspora.<\/p>\n

Another said: \u201d <\/b>I\u2019m so really happy and glad, I shook President hands for the first time, I need to thank comrade Kiir Mayardit as it has been a struggle for us we are the children.<\/p>\n

She added \u201cI am very happy today because we came here and we met with our president, and we are so happy that we are going to have our election next year. So we want to unite our country, we want to have peace we want to be together, so I\u2019m just asking every South Sudanese to let work together to bring peace to our country .\u201d<\/p>\n

The third speaker said: \u201cWe have to put our hands together and the change will come. We are a new generation and we should come together, forget about the differences, forget about dispute that we have between us.\u201d<\/p>\n
