Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>About 80 law enforcement personnel have undergone training on human rights and the rule of law in Upper Nile State, according to a police official.<\/p>\n

The training, facilitated by the United Nations Development Programme UNDP will take place from October 2-5. It targets officers from the police, prisons, fire brigade, and others.<\/p>\n

Major General Chol Atem said the training also focused on the control of small arms by law enforcement agencies.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe training or workshop was based on the rule of law specifically on the field of small arms and this has taken three days we have benefited from that workshop and the understanding of how we are going to control small arms,\u201d General Atem said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, it was discussed widely, and it ended yesterday. The participants were a combined forces of Police, Prison, Fire Brigade and other stakeholders and the number was around 80-70.\u201d<\/p>\n

Atem stressed the need to control small arms he says are the main factor of insecurity in the country.<\/p>\n

He calls on unauthorized individuals possessing small arms to register so that they are known.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a need for control of small arms because they are the main factors of insecurity in the country so everybody who has illegal arm should register so that it is known the person is possessing that particular arm, People should not use arms in unnecessary period\u201d.<\/p>\n
