Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) peacekeeping force commander, Lt Gen. Mohan Subramanian, visited Western Equatoria State on Thursday to assess the security situation in the state after recent reports of rising tensions.<\/p>\n Speaking to media after landing at Western Equatoria\u2019s airstrip, Subramanian revealed that he met with the area governor, Alfred Futuyo, with whom they discussed a number of issues regarding the situation in the state.<\/p>\n \u201cThe governor and I discussed a number of issues, but vitally UNMISS\u2019 ongoing support to the people of Western Equatoria through our protection of civilians activities,\u201d Subramanian said.<\/p>\n \u201cI was happy to inform him that we will soon be establishing an additional temporary base in the state to ensure that our Blue Helmets are proactively positioned to build community confidence and prevent potential violence,\u201d he added<\/p>\n He said UNMISS engineers will refurbish vital routes that would connect remote counties to Yambio during the dry-season in order to enable communities\u2019 network in the state.<\/p>\n \u201cFurthermore, our military engineers will rehabilitate essential supply routes connecting remote counties to Yambio during the dry season, thereby boosting trade; helping people access health facilities on time; and importantly, enabling communities to convene and connect,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Lt. Gen. Subramanian made his second visit to the UNMISS temporary operating base in Tombura, an area where intense conflict in mid-2021 led to loss of lives and widespread destruction of property, while tens of thousands were displaced.<\/p>\n The force commander addressed the troops at the UNMISS base and urged them to continue with the great work they are doing.<\/p>\n \u201cI want you to continue the good work you and your predecessor have done in Tombura.
