Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The national parliament spokesperson said the House will summon the Director General of Traffic Police to explain his recent outburst where he termed the legislative body as illegitimate.<\/p>\n

Major General Kon John Akot said in an interview with an online blog last week, that the parliament is overstepping its boundaries by resolving to impose a permanent logbook system for motorists.<\/p>\n

General Akot is at loggerhead with the legislature after it scrapped expiring logbooks system, which has been linked with allegations of harassment of motorists by crooked officers.<\/p>\n

The Traffic official further said his institution is not answerable to the parliament but operates under the direct authority of President Salva Kiir.<\/p>\n

In response, John Agany, who is the chairperson of parliamentary Information Committee says the House will study the remarks of General Kon and summon him at a later date.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis has to be reported to the house, in the next sitting, this General will come and explain himself and if it is the capacity of the Director General of the traffic police to invalidate the mandate of the national Legislative Parliament, the house will answer him accordingly. \u201d Agany said in an interview with Eye Radio.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe says the members of the parliament have no legitimacy and they are not elected. I am asking him what about the laws we make daily. Are these laws valid documents or they are invalid?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe president has signed these documents to become national laws now who is the director general of the traffic to invalidate what the head of the state has approved.\u201d<\/p>\n

The transitional parliament, whose members were appointed after the 2018 peace deal, previously vowed a similar summon to Information Minister Michael Makuei after he also termed it illegitimate \u2013 adding that the House which he is also a member is not in a position to make a permanent constitution.<\/p>\n
