Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The government of Lakes State in partnership with Trinity Energy is finalizing the installation of a 2.88 Mega Watts electricity in Rumbek town.<\/p>\n

The project involves the installation of about 3,000 meters of power connection in residential areas, educational institutions, and commercial and public facilities.<\/p>\n

So far, close to 200 meters of powerlines have been installed targeting 300 number of street lights to enhance security.<\/p>\n

A total of 2.88 Mega Watts of generated power will be harnessed for consumption in the town while it is expanded to the surrounding areas.<\/p>\n

To date, over 100 households and establishments in Rumbek have had the prepaid meters installed and strategies are being devised to expedite the installation process.<\/p>\n

The first power is set to be switched on in November this year after reaching a critical mass of meters are installed.<\/p>\n

Philip Waden, the Power Project Manager for Trinity Energy told Journalists in Juba on Thursday, October 19, that nearly 200 meters have been already installed.<\/p>\n

\u201cClose to 200 meters have been installed with the focus also on the electrification of Rumbek town through the installation of 300 street lights helping to enhance security,\u201d said Philip.<\/p>\n

\u201cA total of 2.88 Mega Watts of generated power will be harnessed for consumption in Rumbek with plans underway to enhance the generation as the grid is expanded further into surrounding areas,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe project encompasses a comprehensive process, including registration, meter installation and load assessment.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSafety is guaranteed through a process of inspecting the existing wiring in the units where installation is being done and rigorous testing before the commissioning of prepaid meters\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Rumbek power project which has been dormant since 2013, was revived in 2022 when the Egyptian government signed a memorandum of understanding with the South Sudan government to rehabilitate the power plant and distribution network.<\/p>\n

The project is providing employment opportunities for young people in Rumbek who are currently involved in the registration of customers, assessment and installation of meters.<\/p>\n
