Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Juba-based Jamus Football Club secured a historic spot in the South Sudan Cup 2023\/24 finals for the first time by triumphing over Simba FC in a thrilling semi-final match at Buluk football grounds. Jamus FC emerged victorious after a tense penalty shootout, with a final score of 7-6.<\/p>\n

During the penalty shootout, both teams\u2019 goalkeepers displayed remarkable skills. Michael Marko, the goalkeeper for Jamus, made three crucial saves, while Othon Simon, Simba\u2019s keeper, blocked two penalty kicks.<\/p>\n

Referee Anthony Kerry\u2019s decisions during the match generated significant controversy, leading to protests from both teams. This tension escalated into a fan disturbance when Kerry announced that the match favoured Jamus FC even before the penalty shootout concluded. The referee and his first assistant were assaulted by angry fans.<\/p>\n

However, Kerry reconsidered his decision after consulting with his assistants following protests from Simba fans, allowing the match to continue.<\/p>\n

After the match\u2019s conclusion, Simba fans confronted the referee and his first assistant, leading to an attack on them. The stadium security eventually intervened, escorting them to the locker room.<\/p>\n

John Alier, the head coach of Jamus FC, praised his team\u2019s exceptional performance and congratulated them on their historic qualification for the finals.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Simon James Yar, the head coach of Simba FC, extended his congratulations to Jamus FC for reaching the South Sudan Cup finals. He also expressed gratitude to his team for their historic achievement as the first sports club from the second-tier tournament to make it to the South Sudan Local Cup semi-finals, despite their loss to Jamus FC.<\/p>\n

Jamus FC will now await the winner of the other semi-final match between Malakia and Kator to determine their opponent in the finals.<\/p>\n
