Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>About three hundred household in Maban County of Upper Nile State have been displaced from their homes due to a recent flood, an official has said.<\/p>\n

Bolis Yemobili, the area Executive Director says the flash flooding which occurred on November 2, destroyed dozens of houses in about ten residential areas in the county.<\/p>\n

The displaced persons were forced to camp on higher grounds along the main road for safety.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe houses that are destructed now are in hai Neem 1 and 2 Hai Naivasha, Hai Shefta, Hai Khartoum, Hai Munagai, Hai Bunj, the market and the church area,\u201d said Bolis.<\/p>\n

\u201cThose whose houses are destructed are currently staying near the main road, the population is 300,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Eye Radio, one of the flood-displaced persons, Theresa Joseph said they are living along the road to protect their children from water-borne diseases.<\/p>\n

She added their move to the dry areas enables them to work and provide for their families.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are all now living on the roadside because our houses are all destroyed with water. We have one month now and when you think of going back to the house you think of protecting your children from water-borne diseases, if live in a dry land you will be able to work and get something for your children but when you leave in a flooded place it is hard to get food,\u201d Theresa told Eye Radio.<\/p>\n

Asked what the Country authorities have done for the displaced families, Bolis said they have reached out to aid agencies to help address the situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe didn\u2019t expect floods this year in November, however, we reached out to humanitarian organizations to address the situation and we formed a committee to go and assess the situation and how best the ways bringing water can be closed to avoid flooding the areas,\u201d Bolis told Eye Radio.<\/p>\n
