Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>An official at Water Corporation in El Fasher in North Darfur State has said water supply has gradually resumed in the town after nearly a week without water due to the lack of fuel.<\/p>\n

Engineer Abdul Shafi Abdullah Adam told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday he deeply regretted that the town\u2019s water supply had been interrupted in the last few days as a result of the lack of fuel.<\/p>\n

He said that the water sector administration has resumed pumping water in the Shaqra region and has also operationalized the main drains in the town.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs part of the efforts aimed at water sustainability, the sector also directed the companies working in water distribution to focus in the south of the city due to the concentration of those affected by the war there,\u201d Eng. Shafi said.<\/p>\n

He also pointed out that they coordinated with partners to provide water to shelters for displaced people in of El Fasher.<\/p>\n

For his part, Engineer Ismail Mohammed Ahmed, the Director of the Water and Sanitation Project, revealed that works have begun on the rehabilitation of several water pumps in the town, especially in the southern neighborhoods due to the huge population there which includes displaced people. He also said that the water pumps in the camps for the displaced in Zamzam, Peace, and Abuja are being worked on.<\/p>\n

Ahmed pointed out that the project, with the help of partners, plans to continue providing \u201csafe and pure water\u201d in the city of El Fasher and all localities of the state in the immediate future.<\/p>\n

Several inhabitants of El Fasher town expressed their satisfaction with the constant water supply after the restoration of services.<\/p>\n

Mohammed Suleiman, who lives south of the town, confirmed that the water supply is stable these days but complained about the hike in the price of a barrel of water. He said the people understood the price hike which is attributed to the ongoing war in the country and the resultant rise in fuel prices.<\/p>\n
