Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) on Thursday handed over the renovated building which will house the police\u2019s town crime unit to Warrap State authorities and the police in Kuajok town.<\/p>\n

Adewuyi Adewumi, the acting head of the UNMISS field office, urged the state government to make good use of the building to improve services to people.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are not the government but only supporting the Government of South Sudan and here witnessing the handing over of the building which we expect to be put to good use,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is not the first building renovated by UNMISS through a Quick Impact Project which many people will not understand. UNMISS is not a developmental organization but we are here to build and work with people and make relations with host communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not the first building for Warrap State and we stayed in the state for over seven years now and have done more than 34 such projects that include the renovation of police buildings, boreholes, schools, and churches,\u201d Adewumi added.<\/p>\n

The UNMISS official urged the people of Warrap to use the facility beneficially.<\/p>\n

\u201cI urge the state government and the police service to take serious responsibility because Mabek police Station between Ajak Kuajok and Aweng in Twic County was renovated but not put to good use and UNMISS is not happy,\u201d he stated. \u201cWhen there is rule of law, the Government of South Sudan will be good.\u201d<\/p>\n

For his part, Gen. Ayol Atem, the Warrap State acting commissioner of police, acknowledged UNMISS\u2019 efforts in renovating the facility and thanked the Mission.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am very happy to witness this very important handover because the police station used to address the towns and state issues in an unconducive environment,\u201d he said. \u201cToday, after completion of renovations, the facility will help the state police department in addressing crime in the state.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI appreciate UNMISS, especially our colleagues in the United Nations Police because this building will help the police operate in a conducive environment,\u201d Gen. Atem added.<\/p>\n
