Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Central Equatoria State Legal Administration has formed a joint committee to investigate suspected criminal gangs who were arrested in the recent crackdowns.<\/p>\n

National Police Spokesperson Major General Daniel Justin said the Inspector General of Police Gen. Atem Marol, met with the committee that will also discuss the involvement of young people in gangsterism.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Inspector General of Police met with the committee in order to examine, investigate, and prosecute suspects who have recently been arrested in cases related to criminal communications,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

General Justin said the committee is mandated to investigate the suspects, adding that those who are found not to be involved in gang crimes will be released.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe meeting also discussed the legal process of dealing with the phenomenon of criminal gangs and finding out the reason for the involvement of young people. Those proven not to be involved in crimes will be released.\u201d<\/p>\n

Juba police have since arrested about 300 suspects in connection with gang crimes during operations that started from November 19.<\/p>\n

This followed a 21-day crackdown ordered by Inspector General of Police Lieutenant General Marol Biar.<\/p>\n
