Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>A professor at the University of Bahr el Ghazal reportedly died on Wednesday November 29, after he sustained life-threatening injuries during a protest by students four months ago.<\/p>\n

In August 2023, UBG campus students went on rampage after the administration announced increment of their tuition fees.<\/p>\n

The deceased is Professor Boutros Mongu, who was an assistant Professor at the Department of Political Sciences, Economics and Political Studies.<\/p>\n

He allegedly jumped over the campus wall fence and sustained injuries.<\/p>\n

Mr. Mongu later developed complications from the injuries resulting in his demise on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a student named only as Samuel \u2013 a finalist at the university, is advocating for an emergency exit door, arguing that the professor would not have met the fatal accident if there was the safety exit.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe professor felt that his life is in danger, the only option he found escaping is to jump off the wall in case of jumping off the wall, he fell accidentally and hit his chest,\u201d said Samuel.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy believe if there was an emergency exit, it could have saved him, and he would have exited the building without encountering any risk.\u201d<\/p>\n

When contacted, Pasqual Michael, a lecturer at the university, confirmed that his late colleague had jumped over the campus wall.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat incident was two months ago, when student protested in the university of Bahr Ghazal. He was among the members of the teaching staff and administrators who were in the compound,\u201d Michael told Eye Radio.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the situation erupted, each and every one was looking for their own safety. He jumped over the wall and ran out and managed to also leave the compound to avoid the protest.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, he declined to comment on the injury report, but said the deceased colleague fell ill seven days after the students\u2019 strike. situation.<\/p>\n

Mr. Michael added that late professor Mongu was referred to Juba for treatment, and that his condition recently worsened leading to his death two days ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe fell sick seven days after the protest. He was taken to Juba for treatment but there was not much improvement, so the family advised to bring him back to Wau to his family unfortunately yesterday morning hours we lost him.<\/p>\n
