Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of Justice on Tuesday tabled the Commission for Truth, Reconciliation and Healing Bill 2023 and Compensation and Reparation Authority Bill 2023 in parliament.<\/p>\n

Addressing the lawmakers at the Freedom Hall in Juba, Justice Minister Ruben Madol Arol said: “The purpose of this Bill is to establish the Commission for Truth, Reconciliation and Healing to spearhead efforts to address the legacy of conflicts, promote peace, national reconciliation and healing.”<\/p>\n

According to the minister, the Commission for Truth, Reconciliation and Healing was drafted in accordance with the provision of Article 5.2 of the 2018 peace agreement.<\/p>\n

He added, “This bill has a preamble and consists of seven chapters and forty-five sessions, including sections such as preliminary provision, establishment, mandate, powers, and functions of the Commission, among others.”<\/p>\n

Another bill the Minister of Justice tabled before the parliament was the Compensation and Reparation Authority Bill 2023.<\/p>\n

“I present my compliments to your esteemed institution, Rt Honorable Speaker. Please find the attached copy of the Compensation and Reparation Authority Bill 2023 after the National Council has approved it,” Madol said.<\/p>\n

According to the minister, the bill aims to establish the Compensation and Reparation Authority to govern matters and processes of compensations and reparations, to identify aggrieved persons eligible for reparations and establishment funds.<\/p>\n

After the minister’s presentation, Speaker Jemma Nunu Kumba assigned the committees of peace, justice and legislation to scrutinize the two bills and report back after two weeks.<\/p>\n
