Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The former Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Peter Adwok Nyaba, called for a national dialogue ahead of the December 2024 elections.<\/p>\n

Adwok, who spoke during a discussion on the role of history and culture in strengthening peaceful co-existence at the Norwegian Embassy on Thursday, said one of the weaknesses of the political leaders in South Sudan is their failure to meet to discuss the preparations for the elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a need for a national dialogue ahead of the December 2024 elections. One of the weaknesses of our leaders is that they are not dialoguing amongst themselves,\u201d Adwok said.<\/p>\n

He said the political leaders should resolve their issues whenever they have differences to avoid problems.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou see how people will come together if they are not dialoguing when we know there is a problem. When there is a problem, people should sit down and talk because they are the leaders of the political parties,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Adwok emphasised that political parties should be dialoguing on how elections would be conducted, adding that it is the only way to avert going back to conflict.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a challenge to the leaders and the government is just pooling people to go for elections and we are not talking about whether elections can be done freely, fairly, and credibly. People need to talk, and people need to write about it so that we don\u2019t need to go back to war; we want peace,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
