Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Chairperson of the South Sudan National Youth Union has announced the end of his four-year term and formed a committee to conduct an election.<\/p>\n

Gola Boyi Gola was elected on December 11, 2019.<\/p>\n

In October this year, former president of the union, Gola pledged to relinquish his role peacefully and hand over the responsibility to the next body.<\/p>\n

He said the move was to embrace and promote the culture of democracy among the young people.<\/p>\n

Gola stressed that it was a necessary and critical step in ensuring respect for peaceful democratic values as the youth are the future leaders of the country.<\/p>\n

He also called on the upcoming leaders of the union to respect the Union\u2019s constitution and relinquish power once their terms come to an end.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the media in Juba, the ex-Youth President described the official handover on Monday as a commitment to a peaceful transition of power to the next leadership.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we conclude, we want to assure our commitment to the peaceful transition of power to the next leadership, as the national youth union executive committee,\u201d said Gola.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have formed a committee from June that was tasked to organize the third national youth convention, and then also the council were having their committee,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs youth leaders we have come to a consensus and have agreed on the way forward because our constitution dictates at the end of the term, the council should sit and form a preparatory committee and therefore dissolve the union and dissolve itself,\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cToday it marks the end of our term in the office and we would like to inform the public and all the youth of South Sudan that officially the term of the South Sudan National Youth Union has come to an end and we are therefore dissolving the union [executive].\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the National Youth Union has formed a preparatory committee for the convocation of the 3rd convention that will oversee the election of the next leadership.<\/p>\n

The committee is headed by Bona Bol Madut with Engineer Simon Yel Yel as the Secretary General.<\/p>\n
