Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Central Equatoria State governor has formed a committee to assess all petrol stations being constructed in Juba and shutdown those that do not meet the required safety standards.<\/p>\n

This comes after a national legislator raised concerns at a sitting on December 6, over alleged speedy rise in the number of petrol stations in Juba City<\/p>\n

Mary Nyaulang, a lawmaker representing Ayod County of Jonglei State at the national parliament said some of the fuel stations are located close to schools, hospitals, churches, and residential areas.<\/p>\n

In a gubernatorial order issued on December 15, Emmanuel Adil Athony formed a seven-member ad hoc committee to assess the growing number of fuel stations being constructed along roadsides.<\/p>\n

The committee is chaired by the state Minister of Trade and Industry and deputized by the Deputy Mayor for Administration and Finance.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also made up of the Deputy Mayor for Social Services, state government\u2019s Deputy Secretary General, Inspector General of Police or the Assistant, CES Commissioner of Police, CES Director of National Security Service, and Head of the Legal Administration and Public Prosecution Attorney.<\/p>\n

The investigation team is tasked to assess the petrol stations being constructed in residential areas of Juba and the city\u2019s suburb, and to swiftly close stations that do not meet the safety standard.<\/p>\n

The committee is expected to submit a report to Governor Adil in one month\u2019s time.<\/p>\n
