Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>A senior member of the SPLM Political Bureau has called on the peace parties to compromise and have elections conducted as scheduled next year, saying there is no perfect poll.<\/p>\n

Akol Paul Kordit who is also a lawmaker at the transitional national legislative Assembly made the remarks at the thanksgiving ceremony of the Presidential Affairs Minister, Bangasi Joseph Bakosoro.<\/p>\n

During the event, Minister Bakosoro urged other peace parties to prepare for elections next year, saying it is the only way to have a legitimate government.<\/p>\n

However, politician Akol said the spirit of compromise among the parties is important for a country to move forward.<\/p>\n

Kordit argues that a bad election is better than no election.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere will never be a time in any country where a country will be tested and that is ready for 100% election. The process of democratization is not a straight line, it is not a linear process, it is up and down,\u201d Hon. Paul said.<\/p>\n

\u201cA bad election is better than no election and we have to say this to all of us but what we need is this, the spirit of compromise. you are from the opposition or the SPLM, we have to correct ourselves, we have to compromise.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAt least let\u2019s have an election so that we get renewed, get back to the people. The government that will be born out of the election will be better than the government of the transitional period.\u201d<\/p>\n

So far there has been progress in implementing provisions including the reconstitution of the electoral bodies that would enable the country to hold elections.<\/p>\n

However, while the SPLM expressed readiness for elections next year, the SPLM- In Opposition demanded for implementation of a key provision of the agreement including redeployment of the necessary unified forces, the return of IDPs, and refugees and the conduct of a population census.<\/p>\n

The opposition has also decried a lack of political and civil space.<\/p>\n
