Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Lainya County Commissioner, Emmanuel Khamis Richard, is urging the national government of South Sudan to pave the Juba, Lainya, Yei, Morobo-Kaya highway. The aim is to facilitate increased trade within the region.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, Commissioner Khamis highlighted the adverse impact of poor road connectivity on the residents of Lainya County.<\/p>\n

He emphasized that the current state of the road has significantly impeded the daily lives of the people in Lainya, affecting both the movement of individuals and the delivery of essential services. Commissioner Khamis stressed the importance of the Juba, Lainya, Yei, Morobo-Kaya Road as a vital economic and security route in the Republic of South Sudan. This road serves as a crucial link connecting the country to the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Uganda.<\/p>\n

In his plea, Commissioner Khamis stated, \u201cTarmacking this road will contribute to enhancing economic recovery because the Greater Yei region of Central Equatoria is within the Green Belt, which is an agriculturally rich area.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued his appeal, stating, \u201cI urge the national government, specifically the office of the president and all relevant national institutions, to provide essential financial support to ARC, the contracted entity responsible for the construction and paving of this road.\u201d He emphasized the need for ensuring that ARC has the necessary financial resources to carry out the project successfully.<\/p>\n

Addressing the security situation, he reassured the public, saying that Lainya County is currently experiencing a state of calm. The security forces in the county are actively on high alert. \u201cI want to reassure the people of South Sudan, the people of Central Equatoria, and the people of Lainya County that our dedicated security forces are on high alert to swiftly respond to any threats to peace. As of now, the security situation is stable, and our security forces remain vigilant,\u201d he affirmed.<\/p>\n

Situated in the heart of Central Equatoria, Lainya County is strategically positioned along the pivotal highway linking Juba, Lainya, Yei, Morobo, and Kaya. Unfortunately, due to persistent heavy rains and the subsequent deterioration of the road infrastructure, the county has experienced disruptions in both the mobility of its residents and the timely delivery of essential services.<\/p>\n
