Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has issued a decree relieving Manase Lomole Waya from his position as the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) chairperson and appointing Gatwech Peter Kulang as the new chairperson.<\/p>\n

The newly appointed head of the Commission had served before as undersecretary at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management. The decree was read out over state-owned television SSBC Friday evening.<\/p>\n

The RRC is a government agency which coordinates and regulates South Sudan’s humanitarian activities.<\/p>\n

Kiir also issued a separate decree removing and appointing officials in Upper Nile and Jonglei states.<\/p>\n

South Sudan is governed by a transitional government created after a 2018 peace agreement between President Salva Kiir, opposition leader Riek Machar and other political figures.<\/p>\n

The controversy surrounding the timing of general elections, combined with the incomplete implementation of the peace agreement, poses significant challenges to the country’s democratic transition.<\/p>\n
