Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Health authorities in South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal State have verified the completion of free eye surgeries for 1,000 cataract patients, funded by the German Embassy in Juba and other American partners.<\/p>\n

The eye operations campaign, organized by the Wau Diocese of the Catholic Church, commenced on December 12, aiming to assist visually impaired individuals in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, as well as other areas in Warrap and Western Bahr el Ghazal States.<\/p>\n

Aleu Pioth Akot, the Director-General for the Ministry of Health in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, confirmed to Radio Tamazuj early on Monday that the eye campaign had successfully concluded, providing treatment for 1,000 individuals.<\/p>\n

\u201c1,000 patients were successfully operated in the campaign, and they came from Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Warrap, and Raja County in Western Bahr el Ghazal,\u201d stated Pioth. \u201cThere are more than 1,000 patients on the waiting list who will undergo surgery around March 2024.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ajok Deng, an elderly woman who underwent the operation, testified, \u201cI can now see some people and their movements. I wish to regain effective sight. I am currently seeing your hand, observing its movement, and recognizing that person. I am hopeful that my vision will fully return after the wetness dries in my eyes.\u201d<\/p>\n
