Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Schools in South Sudan\u2019s Central Equatoria State have been urged to consider academic records in admitting new students.<\/p>\n

Luate William Alex, Director General at the State Ministry of Education told journalists at a press conference in Juba on Tuesday that both private and public schools need to examine performance of the candidates before enrolling them.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the schools are recruiting learners, let them look at the performance of the children and advise the parents accordingly,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

This came as the Ministry of Education announced that schools will reopen for term one on 5th February 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe schools open officially, according to the Calendar, on the 5th of February 2024 for term one. Which means the teachers have two weeks from now for cleaning and recruitment or enrollment of learners,\u201d Alex said.<\/p>\n

Alex warned teachers to make sure results of the children (Candidates) enrolled are properly checked before registering them.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have sufficient time for parents to take children to schools to enroll them. Our only problem is parents taking their children without proper documentation and recommendations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Alex further warned private schools against commercialization of academic matters instead of focusing on quality education.<\/p>\n

\u201cAdvise the parents accordingly instead of focusing on money. Especially the private schools. Children who are not competent, who have not qualified, and have not met the requirements, please let them repeat,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The ministry has indicated that the second term will start on the 27 of May to 6th September 2024, and then term three will begin on Monday 23rd September to 20th December 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor our general information, Primary Eight and Senior Four candidates will sit for their national exams between the month of November and December according to the calendar. Any changes to that will be made known to the public,\u201d Alex concluded.<\/p>\n
