Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Chairperson of the East African Community (EAC), Salva Kiir Mayardit, on Monday said he will assign special envoys to member-states to engage the leaders to resolve the matters in the event of any disagreements between them.<\/p>\n

This came following a meeting between Kiir, who is also the president of South Sudan, and the EAC Secretary-General, Dr. Peter Mutuku Mathuki, at the statehouse in Juba on Monday.<\/p>\n

In a statement seen by Sudans Post on Monday, Kiir in his capacity as head of the EAC noted with concern the interstate political and security dynamics in the region which he said require urgent intervention.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Chairperson identified several interventions that will be activated towards addressing inter-state relations. President Salva Kiir committed to assign special envoys to the various capitals to deliver his message and where necessary engage the leaders to resolve the matters within the framework of the EAC,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n

He also urged member states to strive to achieve harmonious cooperation in their undertakings in furtherance of the EAC objectives of advancing mutual benefit.<\/p>\n

\u201cPresident Salva Kiir reiterated the need for not only East Africans, but all Africans to embrace the spirit of brotherhood and where omnipresent conflict arises by utilizing the Regional, Continental and Global Peaceful Conflict Resolution Mechanisms available,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n

Dr. Mathuki congratulated President Salva Kiir on assuming the chairmanship of the Community and assured him of his unwavering support in the discharge of his mandate.<\/p>\n

The Secretary-General briefed the Chair on several issues critical to the progress of the Community in the calendar year 2024 and interventions on strengthening EAC inter-state relations<\/p>\n

The deliberations focused on setting targets on deliverables under the Leadership of President Salva Kiir, anchored on the need to foster a predictable and stable security environment that can catalyze the regional integration agenda.<\/p>\n

The EAC is a regional intergovernmental organization of eight partner States comprising Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda, with its headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.<\/p>\n
