Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Warrap State government said critical infrastructures were burned to ashes at a village in Turalei Payam of Twic County by armed youth that attacked the area on Friday 19th January 2024.<\/p>\n

Information Minister William Wol Mayom said gunmen launched an early morning offensive and burned down infrastructures at Anyiel Kuac Boma.<\/p>\n

Mayom said the vandalized facilities include a Primary Healthcare Unit with six buildings, a school and government buildings.<\/p>\n

The information minister said an unspecified number of cattle were raided and properties and properties looted.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Eye Radio, Mayom said the number of casualties is not yet confirmed in the attack that he blames on armed youth from neighboring Abyei region and some \u201cNuer\u201d elements.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had an incident last night in Twic County. Suspected armed youth from Abyei with Nuer allied armed youths burned down the whole boma including government unit infrastructures,\u201d Wol said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the primary care unit, there are six buildings and within these are four concrete buildings and two are grass house and a primary school have also been vandalized and the whole of the village have been burned into ashes.\u201d<\/p>\n

He condemned the incident and called Abyei Authority to apprehend the culprits.<\/p>\n

\u201cCattle and properties have been looted and taken to the direction of Abyei Special Administrative Area. It is a clear violation to the recent order by the president of the Republic that hostilities should be ceased.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs Warrap State government, we condemn it in the strongest term possible and we urge the authorities of Abyei Special Administrative Area to apprehend the culprits\u201d.<\/p>\n

When contacted, Abyei Administrative Area Information Minister Bol Kuch said the region did not receive such information, neither were there any youth that left Abyei.<\/p>\n

Kuch, however, said the authorities in Abyei will investigate the matter to determine facts.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do not have this information. I tried to call the commissioner because the commissioner is near to the area where the incident occurred, but the commissioner said no youth moved from the area,\u201d Kuch said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, we are wondering but we will investigate to get the facts and we will see. We have this empty area, and we really need to deploy joint forces to monitor because it will really cause us issues between the two area.\u201d<\/p>\n
