Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Warrap State fundraising committee raised a total of $1.2 million and SSP 200 million\u2014combine SSP1.44B)\u2014 on Sunday.<\/p>\n The purpose of the fundraising event was to boost agriculture and food security in the state.<\/p>\n According to the statement received from the Governor Press Unit, a huge amount was collected in cash, and the rest of the money were in pledges.<\/p>\n \u201cThe organising committee announced 1.2 million dollars, 200 million South Sudanese pounds as pledges during the event, and 2 thousand dollars in cash,\u201d the statement read in part.<\/p>\n After his swearing-in earlier this month, Warrap State governor Kuol Muor declared that he would be operating under a tree at the Majak Amal state general secretariat in Kuacjok due to the lack of a proper office.<\/p>\n Being the home of many influential politicians in the current government, the state collected a good sum of money, which, if properly managed, would achieve the desired purpose in the state.<\/p>\n Although the fundraising came in January amid salary delays for civil servants and organised forces, several pledges were made to enable the new governor to embark on development in the state.<\/p>\n Among the government officials who donated to Warrap State were Dr. Bak Barnaba Chol, Minister of Finance and Planning, who pledged SSP 30 million.<\/p>\n In addition, businessmen and women in South Sudan, as well as other wishers of different categories, put their hands together to ensure that the Warrap State is supported to improve agriculture and structural development.<\/p>\n In his speech during the event, Governor Kuol Muor appreciated the people of Warrap State and those from other states who contributed and pledged.<\/p>\n Kuol said the support from the South Sudanese and the business community symbolised love for one another and for Warrap State.<\/p>\n He promised to properly use the money collected to develop Warrap State to be conducive for all South Sudanese people.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, the State Minister of Agriculture, Environment, and Forestry, John Madut, decried the lack of financial resources to implement agricultural sector programmes.<\/p>\n He added that the majority of people in Warrap State depend on agriculture, which consists of a combination of subsistence farming, livestock rearing, fishing, and wild food collection, among others.
